Xeomin® is an effective and popular injectable filler available at Keller Plastic Surgery, where board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Gregory S. Keller and his team of specialists provide a variety of cosmetic treatments to residents of Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and nearby areas in Southern California.
What is Xeomin® and what does it do?
Xeomin® is a dermal filler treatment similar to Botox® that contains botulinum toxin, a chemical that temporarily immobilizes facial muscles to prevent repetitive muscle contractions that cause wrinkles, creases, furrows, and lines to develop over time. By temporarily immobilizing the muscles in the treatment area, Xeomin® helps to discourage lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle contractions associated with common facial expressions, such as worry lines or furrows in the brow area.
How does Xeomin® work?
Xeomin® specifically treats “dynamic wrinkles,” or those caused by repetitive muscle contractions in the forehead and brow area, by temporarily immobilizing those facial muscles to prevent continued muscle contraction, causing the face to relax. Xeomin® specifically treats furrows, creases, and vertical lines in between the eyebrows that can give you an angry or worried look. Xeomin® discourages the formation of future wrinkles by preventing contractions in those facial muscles for several months, also preventing existing creases and lines from worsening. Eventually, the muscles become naturally more relaxed, and these wrinkles and creases begin to fade away with time.
What is the difference between Xeomin® and Botox®?
Like Botox®, Xeomin® is minimally invasive and provides immediate visible results, with a single treatment effective in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles for up to six months. Xeomin® offers several advantages over Botox®; however, because Xeomin® contains no additives, this reduces the risk of any adverse or allergic reaction to the product. Xeomin® results appear more quickly than those of Botox®, and Xeomin® is less expensive than Botox®.
Who is the ideal candidate for Xeomin®?
Almost any healthy adult who wants to prevent the formation of lines and wrinkles in the upper face may benefit from Xeomin® treatment. In younger patients, Xeomin® prevents new wrinkles from forming, while on mature skin that has lost its elasticity and firmness, Xeomin® restores smoothness, firmness, and radiance.
How many Xeomin® treatments will I need?
Most patients are able to successfully diminish the appearance of wrinkles and creases in the upper face in a single Xeomin® treatment, while some may require additional treatments to treat stubborn creases and lines. Typically, patients return every six months for follow-up treatments.
How long do Xeomin® results last?
Xeomin® results usually last up to six months. Proper care of your skin and avoiding direct sun exposure, as well as healthy lifestyle habits such as not smoking, will help extend the life of your treatment.
Is there any downtime with Xeomin®?
No. Most patients resume normal activities immediately following treatment, and there is no required recovery period.
