What are the goals of Chin Implants and Chin Augmentation?
Chin implants or chin augmentation is a surgical procedure also known as mentoplasty, which adds volume to a chin that lacks definition or is underdeveloped in comparison to the other facial features. Chin augmentation sculpts the jaw and increases volume and fullness in the chin area to restore proper proportion to the facial features.
How does Chin Augmentation enhance a person’s facial appearance?
Chin augmentation achieves a subtle yet dramatic improvement in one’s facial appearance because it restores proper balance and proportion to the face. When the chin is underdeveloped or too small in comparison to other facial features, the face may appear out of proportion, for example, a large nose or heavy brow area may appear even more prominent in comparison to a receding or undefined chin. Chin implant and chin augmentation achieves a more attractive facial appearance by restoring balance, proportion, and harmony to the entire facial region.
Who is a good candidate for Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation surgery is a safe and simple procedure that may be suitable for almost any healthy adult and is recommended for those who want to add volume and protrusion to a receding or underdeveloped chin.
Is Chin Augmentation a complicated surgical procedure?
Chin augmentation is a simple procedure that is normally completed in about 30 minutes to one hour and may be performed using local anesthesia and sedation, or general anesthesia. The surgery is performed by inserting and positioning a biocompatible chin implant through a tiny incision in the lower jaw, adding protrusion and definition to the chin and jaw. Incisions are usually located under the chin area or inside the mouth along the lower lip. The chin implant is positioned over the jawbone to enhance the size and shape of the chin. The incision is then sutured, and the chin is typically wrapped in compressive bandages or surgical tape to provide support for sensitive healing tissues.
Can I combine other procedures with Chin Augmentation at the same session?
It is very common for chin augmentation to be combined with such procedures as rhinoplasty, otoplasty, blepharoplasty or liposuction or face/neck tite procedures in order to achieve a completely balanced and proportionate facial structure.
How long is the recovery period after Chin Augmentation surgery?
You will have tape on the chin for three to five days, and there will be some swelling in the chin area. Plan to limit strenuous activity (work-out) for about three weeks. Having said this, you will be up and around almost immediately. Arrange in advance to have someone drive you home after the surgery and provide basic home care the day of surgery, while you relax and rest. Initial swelling and bruising following surgery may make it difficult or uncomfortable to perform certain facial movements, such as smiling, chewing, and talking, and we recommend a diet of soft foods for the first few days to avoid unnecessary pressure on the muscles of the chin and jaw. Dr. Keller will prescribe pain medication to alleviate any discomfort you may experience. Most patients return to work quickly and gradually resume light physical activity. You may begin walking immediately and begin to work out after 3 weeks, gradually increasing activity until after about six weeks, you will be fully recovered and may resume regular activities and intense exercise.
