Necklift - Santa Barbara - Los Angeles (Westwood-UCLA), CA is performed by Gregory S. Keller, MD, a double boarded specialist in Facial Plastic Surgery with offices in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Dr. Keller directs the UCLA facial plastic surgery fellowship and has originated many necklift techniques.

Necklift - Santa Barbara and Los Angeles is a term that Dr. Keller uses to encompass many different techniques and tricks (such as Plastysmaplasty, Neck Tuck, Neck Suture,  Corset Platysmaplasty, Ribbonlift) to lift the sagging neck.

A Sagging Neck Makes Us Appear Less Glamorous, Older, Heavier, or Tired.  While we look at ourselves in the mirror from the front view, others often see us in profile.  Often, people become aware of a sagging neck from a picture taken at a wedding, class reunion, or special event. Because Dr. Keller is a sueperspecialist in facial plastic surgery, Necklift-Santa Barbara and Los Angeles can define a neckline with a variety of methods that are optimized for each patient.

While an angular, well-defined neck is a sign of beauty and youth, many people have had more blunted necks since their teen age years or earlier.  Others notice that their neck “sag” or “waddle” occurs with age.

For some, genetics play a role and the neck “waddle” or neck “bands” run in the family.  For others, sun damage, weight loss, smoking, and other causes of “extrinsic” aging contribute to neck sagging.

There are many causes for a sagging neck.  Using our techniques for Necklift - Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, we are prepared to tighten and restructure most causes of neck sagging, whether with or without a facelift.  While some physicians feel that all neck lifting should be done with a facelift, we have found that people often change and age in different areas.  Often, the only sign of aging that a person may notice through life is a sagging of the neck.  Men and younger women, especially, frequently will desire only neck “waddle” or “band” improvement.

Often a small “waddle” of fat under the neck is apparent that can respond well to liposuction (with Necklift - Santa Barbara and Los Angeles techniques at both our Santa Barbara and Los Angeles offices, we utilize the remarkable Cool Lipo laser liposuction to minimize swelling and bruising).  This waddle of fat can be treated from as early as the teen age years into the forties (and, in some cases, beyond).

For some, the ligaments that hold the underlying platysma muscles loosen, and the neck sags.  Since these platysma muscles are paired, they can separate, and we can notice one or two vertical “bands” running from the chin downward.  These are often more noticeable when a patient tightens the neck.  At Keller Facial Plastic Surgery offices, using Necklift - Santa Barbara and Los Angeles techniques, we can tighten these muscles with platysmaplasty surgery performed with endoscopy through small incisions under the chin and behind the ear. Or we can inject the muscles with botox to diminish the bands.

As aging becomes more noticeable, excess skin can accumulate and be a cause of neck sagging.  Also, fat can accumulate under, over, and around the platysma muscles, further weighing down the skin and stretching things out.  Neck Lifting without a face lift can largely correct these problems.  Or non-invasive methods such as Accents can give improvement.  At Keller Facial Plastic Surgery and Rejuvalase Medi-Spa, we provide a spectrum of options.

There are other, more unusual causes of neck sagging.  Tight ligaments from the chin downward can “blunt” the neck, as can a small chin.  Big neck muscles (digastric, mylohyoid) and hypertrophied submaxillary saliva glands can cause bulges.  Different treatment options are available at Keller Facial Plastic Surgery with Necklift -Santa Barbara - Los Angeles techniques for treating sagging neck problems.
